ALP Install: OverviewAs some may not know, a radar detector that has a laser warning feature, usually does not help at all. All it confirms is, "The cop got your speed, pull over to receive your ticket". In order to actually defend against police using laser (lidar), you need a specialized counter measure.
I had my first adventure in lidar defense in the RS4, where I installed (and extensively documented) a 4-head Laser Interceptor system. It was the undisputed king at that time (early 2013) and with the S6 on the horizon, I went researching to see if this was still true, knowing I would be adding a system. Times change, and thankfully the answer as to 'Who's #1?' was pretty easy to get to: AntiLaser Priority (ALP). There is a much more expensive Stinger VIP system that combines the best of the radar and lidar worlds, but aside from being way out of budget, I'm also not a fan of the rather large display that goes along with the system. After browsing the always hepful RDForum, I knew I wanted a 4-head system (2 front, 2 rear) along with the HiFi Control Set option. The HiFi option brings speech to the system to more easily navigate menu options and also hear the exact lidar sources that the system is seeing. |
Installing ComponentsThere are three main parts to the install which are documented on the following pages:
